The First Friday of June is National Doughnut Day!

National Doughnut Day started as a fundraiser for Chicago’s Salvation Army and the holiday was established in 1938 to honor the ladies who served doughnuts to soldiers in WWI.

Although your favorite bakers only bake doughnuts that don’t fair too well shipping in hot weather, we’ve compiled a list of popular US spots that are offering great ways to celebrate the day with a doughnut (or a dozen):

Duck Doughnuts is celebrating with free cinnamon-sugar doughnuts.

Voodoo Doughnut has its Raised Glazed Bakers Dozen at a discount today.

If you order a hot or iced beverage via the app or website, US-based Tim Hortons will give you a free doughnut. (We’re not sure if the Canadian locations offer the same.)
