Comparison Killed the Cat
Comparison not only killed the cat but it killed the confidence. The motivation. The dream! Comparison is lethal! But luckily, comparison is an unnecessary evil.
With everyone displaying their everything online, the world of make believe (AKA social media) will have you thinking our peers’ lives are off the charts. Not! Even businesses that update throughout the day have down times. Social media will have you thinking that their lives are a movie and that is what influences us to subscribe, purchase and -unfortunately- compare.
Scrolling by, you ask yourself what he has that you don’t. You wonder why you aren’t where she is. A big part of my guess is that they are probably minding their business. Like, literally, the bulk of their thoughts and focus are on their business, not yours or anyone else’s.
Think: if you had what they seemingly have, would you be happy? If that opportunity fell into your lap today, would you be ready? Do you even have a team?
I think it’s natural to compare. And it’s not a bad thing if you’re comparing yourself to the person you were a year ago. Comparison is necessary to reflect on how your business has grown. But when you waste time trying to figure out how to get what they got that you want, all you’re doing is just that: wasting time.
So focus, do the work and mind your business.
